With the start of the game, each player retains four cards and discards the remaining two or one card face down to form a ‘crib’ which will be used by the dealer. Each player lays one card in the discard pile all the while stating the cumulative value of the pile. This continues till players can not lay down another card without overshooting 31. A player on his turn can tell ‘Go’ if he cannot lay another card so that the other player can continue doing so. First the opponents score the cards and then the dealer. A pair scores 2, three of a kind scores 6 and four of a kind gives12 points, a Run scores 1 point per card, reaching a cumulative total of 15 or 31 gives 1 point to the player. Likewise there are points for flush cards also. If player does not reach 91 points he is ‘skunked’ and not able to reach 61 means ‘double skunked’.

Traditionally a game for two players, Cribbage can have 3 or more players. The game involves playing and grouping cards to gain maximum points. The player scoring targeted number of points either 61 or 121 is the winner of the game.

Here, Ace is worth 1 point, number cards are worth their numeric value and face cards have 10 points. Suits are all equal. A player other than the dealer cuts the deck and determines the top card. This is the wild card which is used in the end to count points. If this top card is a Jack, then dealer gets 2 points. The number of cards dealt to a player depends on the number of players in the game.

Most popular casino card game in America and Europe is Texas Hold’em. It is a community card game where a player can use a combination of 5 community cards and two of his own hole cards to make a poker hand.

Like most poker games, it is played with a deck of 52 cards with no Joker. The players are dealt two cards initially, called the hole cards. These are the only cards dealt to the players individually and will be revealed only at the time of showdown in the end. Play begins with a ‘pre flop’ betting round which starts with the player sitting on the dealers left side. The betting continues till all players have folded or put in their chips. After this ‘pre flop’ round if there are two players remaining in the game, then the dealer deals 3 face-up cards or Flop. Then next betting round happens. After this round, a single community card, called the Turn or Fourth Street, is dealt, which is again followed by another betting round. The final community card called the River or Fifth Street is dealt and fourth betting round commences. If only one player remains, then he is the winner of the pot and is not required to show his cards but if two players are remaining after the final betting round, then Showdown happens and they have to show their 5 card hand. The winner is the one with the best hand.

Pai Gow Poker is an American version of Asian Pai Gow tile game. It is played with a standard 52 card deck with one joker which is used as a wild card to complete a hand which can be straight, a flush or a straight flush. The game can have up to six players and one banker. The casinos have a five percent house edge on all the winning bets.
All the players’ place bets according to the table minimum. The dealer deals seven stacks of seven cards regardless of the number of players sitting. The player after looking at the cards divides them into two hands; one is a 5 card hand and other is a two card hand. Positions to place the hands are marked on the table. The 2-card hand is in the front and 5-card hand is behind it. As a rule, the 5-card hand has to be higher than the 2 card hand. If both hands of a player beat the banker’s hands, then the player wins. If only one hand beats a banker’s hand and other looses it, there is no winner. And if either of the players hand has the same value as the banker’s hand, then it is a Tie and is called a Copy and in that case Bank wins.

A favorite of James Bond, Baccarat is a popular casino game. It is played with eight decks of 52 cards each. Two types of hands are dealt in this game; a player’s hand and a banker’s hand. The terms player and banker are options on which customers can place the bets. Before the deal, players wager money on whether the player or banker’s hand will be closest to the total of 9.

In this game the tens and court cards have a value of 0, the aces are valued at 1 and the number cards have their face values. In case, the value is more than 10 then the total is subtracted by 10 to get a single digit figure. The highest score can be 9 and the worst hand is 0. The initial two cards are dealt face down to the player and then the banker. If either of them achieves a total of 8 or 9 in the initial deal it is called Natural and no cards are drawn. If the total is between 0-5, additional card is dealt but if the total is from 6-7, the player or banker ‘Stands’. The croupier announces the winning or loosing hand. Loosing bets are collected, winning bets are paid 1-1 to the player, 95% to the banker and 5 % is the house commission. In case of a tie (same value of player and banker’s hand), tie bets are paid at 8 to 1 odds and other bets remain active for the next game.

The dealer deals four cards to each player on the table. This is given two at a time. Firstly, four cards are placed on the casino table. As long as it happens in sequence, a dealer can give any number of cards to a player. This can be one, two, three, or even a deal of four to each player. In all the further deals, the dealer refills a players’ hand when needed but obviously he does not replenish the table. Post the deck’s exhaustion the deal rotates to the next round.
Each player is supposed to play one card at one go. This commences with the player immediately to the left of the dealer. A player can hold on to one or more actions. He can indulge in trailing; this implies discarding any given card faces up on the casino table. He can indulge in pairing; this implies using any card to procure one or more card of similar denomination. A player can also deal in combining where he uses a number card to procure a couple or more cards whose pips accumulate to number of cards that were primarily used to take them.

Highest hand wins. The rule is simple. There is an added corollary though. The hand should not be more than 21. Hands which are higher than 21 are said to be bust or too many. Cards from 2 to 10 are equal in value to what’s printed on them. Jack, queen, king are valued at 10. Ace is valued at 11. In case a player busts with the value of ace, an ace is accorded the value of 1.
The goal of a player is to verily get one-up on the dealer or the house by showing a higher unbusted hand. If both the player and the dealer get stuck at the same point value, the game gets absolved with no ready winner. Varying for different casinos, the minimum/maximum bets are put on a sign on the table.
The dealer gives out the card from a single or couple of hand held decks. He can also do it from a shoe which can contain as many as four decks. The player can choose from various options. He can call Hit to take another card or Stand if he does not want to take another card. He can call Double Down if he wishes to increases his bet to a double value of the present value. He can call Split and let each card become the primary card while in a fresh hand. This option can be chosen when both cards equal in rank. Finally a player can also call surrender. This would be meaning conceding half the bet and packing the hand. This is not a must option with a casino though.

Poker games differ in the way it deals out cards. Further, the formation of hands might differ as well. In few variations, the higher hands win, in others the lower hands take home the bounty from the casino. There is another variation in which the pot is parted between the low and high hands. Various casinos allow different rounds of betting and also propose altered limits on bets.
The game in a casino usually begins with a forced bet and the line of action shifts to the left. Each player is asked to counter the maximum bets or pack. This amounts to becoming a sleeping partner in the game without holding any further active interest. The betting round is decidedly over when each player active in the hand has either folded or equaled the last bet.
In the event of each player packing his hand except one, the last player becomes entitled to the pot. Poker players believe that poker is quite different from other casino card games. Apart from the initial forced bet, every other stake is played voluntarily. This implies that a particular hand is always bent towards chance but the overall result is determined by a player’s methods and understanding of probability. It would also depend on his understanding of other player’s psychology.
In a casino, the cards are dealt by the house but each time a player is nominated through the clockwise rotation of the button. This player selects the order of betting. Players usually use an ante or a blind bet. More than a player can take the forced bet.
